Pink. Sparkles. Lip gloss. Those were the only thoughts running through Spencer's mind as he walked into the break room. Which this was a surprise to him because usually his mind was running a mile a minute--mathematical equations, book references, and case theories. But when you were near that was all reduced to a heaping pile of nothing. Especially now, as you leaned casually against the counter, in pink pumps and matching skirt that definitely wasn't up to the dress code, but he wasn't sure if you cared.

Cradled between your hands was a white mug, its side inscribed with the words 'Britney survived 2007. You can handle today' in stark black letters. He had no idea what it meant, but he noticed it was your favorite, a staple in your daily routine, unless it found its way to the top self, an inconvenience Spencer would subtly always rectify when he went to pour his own cup.

The focal point of his attention, however, was your lips, more precisely, the sheer layer of shimmering gloss that clung to them. Words were forming on those same lips, presumably directed at him, but they seemed to dissolve before reaching his ears, his gaze transfixed by the glistening movement of your mouth.

"Huh?"

With a smile, you pressed your glittering lips together and took a step in his direction. He managed to clear his throat, trying to redirect his attention to your eyes, but his gaze remained helplessly planted.

"I swear, half my routine is just reapplying this stuff after every sip," you said while your thumb worked diligently to wipe away the sparkling smudge from the mug.

"Considering the non-Newtonian fluid dynamics of the lip gloss's polymeric substances, which exhibit both viscous and elastic properties, it leads to a higher propensity for adhesion and cohesion on substrates with varying thermal coefficients."

Your fingers absentmindedly toyed with your earlobe as you cocked your head, a bemused furrow forming above your eyes, but your smile remained undiminished.

"Sorry, that went right over my head," you laughed, nose scrunching in the process. "But it's sweet of you to assume I caught all that."

"Oh, sorry, well, lip gloss is made of oils and waxes that give it that shiny appearance. However, these ingredients don't fully absorb to your skin, so when you press your lips against something, like a hot coffee cup, the excess transfers over."

Heat suffused his face as he registered the unwavering attention you afforded him, as if you were hanging on his every syllable. He sensed your struggle to comprehend, but your effort was evident. He really liked having your attention.

"So, with all that brainpower, do you have any tips for keeping my gloss on my lips instead of my mug?"

"Maybe a straw?"

Your laughter was like music to his ears, filling his senses as your hand, perfectly manicured, lightly touched his arm. A rush of warmth flooded his neck, and he looked at you, momentarily lost for words, as you murmured, "I'll try that out, thanks, Dr. Reid."

"Spencer," he corrects.

"Right, well, thank you, Spencer," you said, standing on tiptoes to plant a kiss on his cheek, before twirling on your heels, your smile lingering in the air.

Spencer could feel the stickiness on his skin, his fingers pressing against the spot you had left, feet glued to the ground. He starting to think he really likes lip gloss.

A Prissy Girl’s Guide to Spring

In the words of coco Chanel “If you want to be original. Be ready to be copied.” So today I will be explaining my (upcoming clothing) brand iCandy to all of my candy girls that want the look, because my look is more than an aesthetic and extends outside of just the theme of my clothing brand, this is my souls essence.

My style is all about being hyperfeminine and capturing the sex appeal and beauty reminiscent of old Hollywood actresses all with a little bit of edge and intimidation. It leans heavily into the early 2000s and pulls from “bimbo” and “video vixen” looks with a hint of agejo Gyaru.

Scorned Women Media

This post was inspired by my recent watch of the gorgeous new Sophia Coppola biopic Priscilla. As Coppola does so well, the film created a hazy pastel world, a series of snippets from Priscilla’s time with Elvis Presley. Allowing us, the viewer, to watch the teen girl slowly be manipulated and abused by this rock and roll legend. The perfect femme fatale, no doubt that she is the victim in this scenario. Priscilla adds to the growing pop culture catalogue of scorned women media. This post will explore the intricacies of the femme fatale and whether or not our obsession with the female victim can be empowering. 

When I say the term ‘Scorned women media’ I mean both fiction and non-fiction stories that focus on the women as the victim in the scenario. We love depictions of woman suffering in the same society we do. Whether it is their lived experience or as collateral in another’s story. See the popularity of Princess Diana. A clear example of this is the shift in attitude towards Paris Hilton after her 2021 YouTube documentary. Paris disclosing that she was actually playing more of a character and a victim of abuse in the Troubled Teen Industry. Through such a personal disclosure she went from being a bimbo who can’t DJ, to a survivor and businesswoman who leveraged societies prejudice to make millions. The truth being that this Paris was there the whole time, we just weren’t looking.  

Biopics are a staple of cinema and becoming ever more popular. The biopic allows us to enter the world of a well-known figure, satisfying our natural human curiosity with a healthy dose of nostalgia. In terms of Priscilla, Coppola not only told her story but recreated her world, which I personally loved being a part of. But when we look back at the Biopics of the past few years the female led stories are greatly overshadowed by those of men. Just 33% of films in 2022 were those depicting solo female protagonists. In 2023 we had twice the amount of male led biopics to female led (18:9). It is important to tell stories of iconic figures in society, but the Hollywood funding bias leads to an oversaturation of white- male led stories. 

Something that made Priscilla stand out as a female biopic was the inclusion and input of Priscilla herself as a producer. Blonde and Spencer are recent films (2021 and 2022) posthumously telling the struggles of their main characters. In both cases, this lack of humanisation of their main characters leads to a violent depiction of their suffering and presents fiction as fact. Although Spencer does admit itself as more of a ‘fable’ it is a tough 2 hour exploration of ar Di’s presumed mental state and provides the titular character little relief or redeeming characteristics. Is it too much to ask to see a woman succeed?  

Priscilla peppers in scenes of abuse, yet still spends enough time with our main character for us, the audience, to see other characteristics of hers. There has been slight backlash into the favourable view of Elvis in this story, but with Priscilla herself as the producer, could this not just be her personal view. I hope that Priscilla is a sign of a shift in scorned women biopics to be made based on stories of its victims and prioritise what they WANT to say rather than sensationalise their suffering. Such personal and vulnerable depictions of women need to be more empowering, rather than add to the exploitation that they have already suffered from.  

Another 2023 hit was the autobiography of Britney Spears ‘The woman in me’, that allowed her to finally speak her truth after years of public exploitation. Spears’ book allowed her to reclaim her narrative, which is never a bad thing. The change in public attitude towards Britney shows a more general shift in how we view women and the symbiotic relationship this has with the media (we’re nicer to women so they are too). In her youth, Britney was so heavily exploited through stories told about her, the relentless hunting from paparazzi and their capitalising on her most vulnerable moments. The demand and space for her to write this book shows that we are more sympathetic to the struggles of women and our it-girls. ‘The woman in me’ will draw rage from any reader, rage towards how Britney was treated by the media, her family and her ex-partner Justin Timberlake. Their relationship was heavily prevalent at the time and was used by Timberlake to further his own career, by creating a false victim narrative and feeding into a pre-existing sexist hatred of Spears. He spread rumours that he was the victim of cheating, discussed her virginity in interviews and used a lookalike in his music video, all to draw sales. With the release of ‘the woman in me’ his reputation was shot through, his exploitative actions exposed (not like they weren’t already obvious) and Britney winning the public court of opinion.  

It took the release of the Britney’s autobiography to cause such a shift in public opinion. We, as a society, needed the victim to underline and contextualise his shitty actions, it brings into question whether anything would have happened if Spears had not so clearly corrected his lies. Well, in a clear case of Justin Timberlake, we see that it did in fact take a dressing down from Spears for him to admit his wrongdoings, not only to her but to Janet Jackson. The Janet Jackson incident being a wardrobe malfunction that led to him exposing Jackson’s breast in the 2004 Superbowl. This resulted in Jackson being uninvited from the next Grammys, and Timberlake winning multiple. Whilst Janet Jackson herself has only spoken positively about Timberlake and the incident, was her not allowing herself to be portrayed as a victim stopping us from seeing Timberlake as a controversial character. If Jackson had filled this role of scorned woman would we have seen her as being unfairly treated. Victim or not, the cancellation of Janet Jackson for this incident was disgusting and heavily sexist.  

But the point of Jackson vs Timberlake also brings into question the racial element of scorned women media. Previous examples of Priscilla, Spencer and Blonde all show beautiful, young, WHITE women. I believe this is due to the pre-existing views on white women as natural victims, frail and those to take care of. Although the slow feminist shift in attitudes has allowed us to now support the Paris Hiltons of the world- the reliance on big budget offerings to do such takes the little funding and heavily directs it to favouring space for white women to share their woes. Sexist predispositions are one thing to fight, but Black and POC women are handed another burden of racial bias. This dichotomy leads to stereotypes such as the ‘Angry Black woman’ , this pre-exsiting bias limits opportunities of scorned black women to present themselves as such. Our feminist shift needs to evolve to allow space for ALL victims of sexism to speak their truth in an EMPOWERING way. By no means do victims need to share their stories if they are not ready, but priorities must be shifted to allow those who choose to, to have the ability to. With this needs to be space for victims' stories to be consumed without them being patronised or sensationalised. 

Whilst we may benefit from seeing the representation in victimhood, we, as consumers, need to be aware of the forms of scorned women media we consume. We need to demand the depiction of women at their most vulnerable to be empowering like Spears’ autobiography. It needs to cause a shift in perception like Paris’s documentary. It needs to benefit the ones at the center of it rather than benefit from their suffering. The scorned woman is not just the beautiful white woman. An unfortunate fact about our society is that every woman is scorned. But now this growing societal focus must shift to stories of POC women, to further dismantle stereotypes and force self-reflection.

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

Hey Ghouls!

As a continuation of my last post, I'd like to move to the next horror hostess, Elvira! This will probably not be the only time I talk about her, as she has reigned as the Queen of Halloween for three whole decades!

Elvira is played by Cassandra Peterson, and the character made her debut as the horror hostess of Elvira's Movie Macabre, which ran from 1981-1986. Elvira is best described as a "gothic witch slut", who (typically) wears a low-cut long black dress with a long slit on one side, a black bees-nest style updo and has an exaggerated hourglass figure. Elvira's makeup is inspired by Japanese Kabuki theatre makeup, which was likely was also mixed traditional gothic makeup.

Maila Nurmi, who played the original horror hostess, Vampira, was against Cassandra Peterson's portrayal of the new horror hostess because of how unserious and ditzy Elvira was. It was also likely because Lola Falana was supposedly Nurmi's heir to the Vampira throne, but the station would not hire her for the hostess role.

^I believe this is likely due to racist biases from the studio staff, but unfortunately, to delve into that would be off topic for this post.

Elvira's Movie Macabre operated a lot like The Vampira Show, and had five seasons and 140 episodes. Going down the episode list on Wikipedia illustrates how many goth niches were created by the horror movie genre alone! So many movies that were featured under the Elvira brand are also public domain, so maybe after this quarter I'll marathon my ass through them and do reviews?

Apart from Elvira's Movie Macabre, the gothic character also starred in movies (Elvira: Mistress of the Dark and Elvira's Haunted Hills, both of which are currently free on youtube!) Both movies are raunchy- which is a staple in Elvira anything. I wouldn't put your expectations too high for the writing however- it isn't too great.

In my opinion, Cassandra Peterson did an extremely clever thing when creating her character- including unseriousness. By making Elvira part-goth part-bimbo, she successfully tied in a very important element found throughout the gothic subculture- which is to not take yourself too seriously. A band who I think does this perfectly is 45 grave! I saw them live a year ago, and the show was super playful and fun!

There is SO much more Elvira media out there, so this is likely going to be part one so this post isn't long like others I've made

ive given up on extraordinarily Excellent entities for now. I don't like reference "humor" for an example of it from back then I put Swing You Sinners by Fliscer Studios on the table. You see that in the graveyard one of the ghosts looks like someone. Who? It's too outdated to tell, really. The punch is gone if there ever was one. TDOS suffers the exact same way. If I see cringe pill I know half of the time the joke has already ceased to be funny. The other half it was never. Now take Bimbo's Initiation, for a counterpoint it has some jokes in it the feud with disney ended poorly so we can understand why mickey was being a rat and half get the reference. But when Bimbo opens a door to a skeleton who has a "bone to pick" with their partner? That's still out of left field and funny. But other little bits and bobs get smoothed out over time. Abbot and Costello are STILL funny in almost all of their skits. The ones I've seen at least. The true comedy never died. References will. Now if only I could hear the firesign theaters audio plays I would rate that too.

I'm actually quite the fan of reference humor! The problem is tho that you have to get the reference in order for it to be funny. It's why I don't recommend single seasons of object shows just because they're more well-done, nearly every object show has self-referential humor and they rely on you having seen the previous seasons first (it's why I call it Paper Puppets and not Paper Puppets Take 2. Ppt2 is season 2, not the whole show. Same applies for BFB vs BFDI as a whole). It's a shame bc a lot of single seasons become more well-known then their whole shows (OBS for example. Obsolete Battle Show is season 3 of Calculatory Battle Grounds, which I had never heard of despite seeing OBS around incredibly often) but it's just a staple of object shows at this point since BFDI does it so often

2023 goals! ♡

I know it's a little early but, Bambi started down the path of being bambi not just because she had a huge bimbo fetish but for a more positive change in lifestyle (and yeah I know that sounds weird given that the BS program is about being a mindless suckpuppet but the lifestyle in general is way more than just sex). So here's my goals so bambi and I can be the best ditzy bimbo ever.

Work out more. Literally everyone has this as their NYR but for me it's not about losing weight, but more so spending my downtime doing something healthy and productive. Like yeah, I could cry at home eating while eating gas station ice cream, OR I could cry while punching a punching bag or running on a treadmill. What sounds better? The second one because cookies n cream is temporary but a healthier body is...not as temporary.

Love myself and be more feminine! I know this is a bimbo blog but oldself is actually a bit tomboyish. Half of my wardrobe came from Spencer's. And you know what? That's valid. But oldself started dressing that way all those years ago out of insecurity and even a little misogyny. And that's not cool. I want to make sure that I'm dressing how I want to dress because that's how I want to dress. I want to embrace my feminine side more as well. More crops! More pink! (actually more peach because oldself looks better in peachy shades than straight up pink).

Be cleaner/organized. Oldself isn't organized, like at all. Her desk has like spiked lemonade cans, and makeup all over it. Her floor has almost an entire laundry basket on it. My goal is to spend at least one day a month cleaning my spaces and making sure nothing is out of place. Having a clean space is a must for good mental health. I bought a 2023 planner to help with this goal (it has pusheen on it!)

Drink less energy drinks/caffeine. So idk if I ever said what my job was but I work for a certain coffee chain. Because my hours are all over the place I rely on red bulls and espresso shots to do anything, and that's not good. Bambi and I both want to have a healthy relationship with caffeine. A cup of coffee here or there, a rebel from dutch on occasion is fine, but no more of my entire bottom shelf being red bull or cold brew. The only addiction should be to train and suck, not getting my heart to stop.

Practice self care/better skin care! Oldself never gives herself the love she needs, she has good skincare but doesn't use it as much. She has soooo many incenses and candles but never really lights them. I have a salt lamp in my window that i've only turned on once. Mindless bliss isn't just the result of brainwashing, it's also meditation and scent therapy and just genuinely being in a happy space.

Be consistent in training! Taking on the 20 day challenge was kind of a mistake because nonstop brainwashing during the holiday season isn't nearly as hot as it sounds, ESPECIALLY when family arrives. Maybe an every day model isn't ideal, but at least doing one session a week and being consistent with that is how Bambi becomes better. Plus having a whole day set aside for bambi is WAY more exciting than "oh it's 10PM I better train...even though I haven't showered and my laundry is in the dryer and I have to be up in 10 hours."

Wear makeup every day! Bambi loves makeup, she has so much of it. But oldself only really does it on her day off now. And bambi wants to look her best all the time. So even if it's just foundation/concealer, blush, and lip gloss, that's still better than nothing. And both oldself and bambi feel better when she's not showing her dark circles. So she's planning on making a staples bag with just like a skin tint, a a concealer, a basic blush from like kaja or like benetint or something, maybe one of the bento eyeshadow trios too, and a nude lip tint/gloss. Something easy that she can throw on in the break room, need be.
